She is the co-founder of Muslim Women of Durham Region (MWDR), a not-for-profit organization that creates leadership opportunities for women and youth while fostering meaningful community engagement.
Kubra has led initiatives such as Ramadan Storytimes at local libraries and Islamic History Month events, promoting dialogue and cultural understanding.
Her contributions have been recognized nationally and locally with numerous awards, including the King Charles III Coronation Medal (2025), Women Who Inspire Award from the Canadian Council of Muslim Women (2022), and the Diversity and Community Engagement Award from the Town of Ajax (2022).
Through her vision and service, Kubra continues to champion inclusivity, empower women and youth, and strengthen community bonds across Durham Region and beyond.

Huda Adnan is a registered social worker, lead consultant and principal psychotherapist at Noor El Huda: The Guiding Light Therapy/Consulting Services. Noorelhuda is a trauma-informed service that brings holistic mental health support to individuals and supports organizations with professional development training.
Huda Adnan is a dynamic and influential speaker delivering evidence-informed workshops, webinars, and keynote engagements. With over a decade of experience, Huda is an expert in her field having worked with several organizations such as public and private schools, community health care, provincially and nationally. She brings a compelling and accessible approach to every audience. Huda’s expertise includes- culturally responsive care for professionals, intergenerational trauma, newcomer and refugee mental health, and Islamophobia, equipping participants with the knowledge and strategies to create meaningful change.

Dr. Kashmala Qasim PhD at York University in Psychology. She completed her undergraduate studies in Psychology from the University of Toronto and completed a Masters in Neuroscience from McMaster University, with a focus on mental health and obesity.
She has also completed the Taleem ul Qu'ran Diploma course from Al Huda Institute. Kashma
Dr. Kashmala Qasim PhD at York University in Psychology. She completed her undergraduate studies in Psychology from the University of Toronto and completed a Masters in Neuroscience from McMaster University, with a focus on mental health and obesity.
She has also completed the Taleem ul Qu'ran Diploma course from Al Huda Institute. Kashmala has been a lecturer in the Department of Psychology at the Islamic Online University, and has also received Level 1 Pastoral Counselling training from the University of Toronto.
She has worked in a managerial capacity with Khalil Center. Kashmala’s dissertation involves conducting qualitative research studies looking at Muslim womens mental health. She is now working at the University of Toronto.
In collaboration with Muslim Women of Durham region, Kashmala led our first in-person workshop on mental health for youth which was a success.
